Harbour & Vine

Our story

A chandlery, a grapevine and a very good oven.

The building on Harbour Walk sold rope, paint and brass fittings to the boats on the Adur for the best part of a century. When it came up for rent, the windows sold it to us before we'd seen the kitchen.

We kept everything we could: the beams, the long counter, the hooks in the ceiling, and the grapevine someone planted by the door decades ago, which now covers the whole front. The harbour gave us half the name; the vine gave us the other half.

We cook the way we like to eat on a day off: good bread, local fish and crab from the boats down the road, plenty for vegans and anyone avoiding gluten, and coffee roasted in Sussex.

Behind the counter

Steam rising from the espresso machine
Coffee from 8am, from beans roasted twenty minutes up the road.
A cook's hands plating up a dish in the kitchen
Everything on the bake counter is made here, starting at six.
